An Engineer is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business.

In this role, you will: * Combine software development, networking and systems engineering expertise to help engineering teams build and run Nordstrom.com * Help us define, transition to, and grow a Site Reliability Engineering model * Build tooling to allow the self-service of AWS offerings by engineering teams in a secure, reliable, friction free manner * Develop foundational capabilities to feed near real-time business and technical metrics into a modernized Live-Site Operations Center * Work closely with engineering teams with a demonstrated commitment to their success * Represent Nordstrom in the technical community, which can include contributing to open source * Demonstrate a passion and commitment towards advancing the use of public and hybrid cloud technologies * Future participation in 24x7 on-call rotation Demonstrates Engineering Expertise * Demonstrates thorough knowledge of information technology concepts issues, trends and best practices as they relate to discipline/practice * Demonstrates advanced knowledge of specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems or functions * Stays abreast of industry best practices, technologies, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies * Anticipates system and application challenges * Understands, leverages  and applies best practices effectively Embraces Quality and Sustainability  * Manages continuous improvement in quality and stakeholder satisfaction by ensuring appropriate quality processes and ensuring the solution meets internal/external customer requirements. Performs quality reviews * Designs systems, services and components that meet required levels of quality and performance sustainability * Investigates and recommends approaches & systems that meet quality, performance and sustainability criteria * Drives continuous improvement in establishing and meeting system level performance measures  

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications: * Exposure with cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS) and APIs * An understanding of the complexities around security and compliance in a public or hybrid cloud environment (PCI, etc) * Experience with automation languages like Ruby, Powershell or Unix, etc. * Experience with Git or other source control * Experience with automation tooling such as Chef, Docker, etc. * Some engineering development experience, preferably in Java, Node.js, or .NET * Understanding of software development methodologies and practices, including agile or lean development, continuous integration and continuous delivery * General awesomeness, positive attitude and passion trump all other requirements
