This is a developmental position working under close supervision and receiving specific and detailed instructions as to required tasks and results expected. Area of work involves processes related to qualification and assessment of supplied materials. PURPOSE STATEMENT : Responsible for assessing electrical and mechanical interactions of components, printed circuit assemblies, complex sub-assemblies, and sourced finished goods with hardware system-level requirements. Provides support in the creation, development, on-boarding, commercialization, and sustaining engineering of medical device accessory products as a Component Engineer in the Supplier Engineering department. The individual will be required to partner with system level R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, and Marketing groups to help design, develop, evaluate and troubleshoot complex components and sourced finished goods (Contract Manufacturers and OEM suppliers). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : * Works with R&D to research, develop, design, and evaluate complex mechanical and electronic assemblies, sub-assemblies, and printed circuit assemblies for use in medical device applications. * Works with suppliers around the globe to understand assembly and finished good manufacturing processes and acts as technical expert to ensure repeatable and reproducible quality/ reliability during the life of the product. * Investigates and evaluates new and existing technologies for use in future products or improve quality/reliability of current product. * Performs a variety of routine technical tasks which provide experience and familiarization with the engineering methods, practices, products and programs of the materials function. Examples include completion of First Article reports, material regulation compliance, and engineering change requests. This position allows time and latitude to learn the basic business processes, and assumes that guidance from more senior engineering staff, managers and mentors will be provided to aid development. * Interfaces with suppliers with support from senior engineering staff and commodity team members to support investigation of supplied material issues or supply constraints. * Assists in troubleshooting processes on-site at supplier facility, generally under supervision or to a plan agreed to by senior engineering staff. * In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures. Minimum Education and Experience : * Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and/or Material Science preferred) with 1-3 years’ experience or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and/or Material Science preferred) with 0 * 3 years’ experience Additional Requirements : * Excellent project management skills are a must. * Strong bias for action and results orientation is critical. * Individual must be self-driven and self-motivated to learn and use that knowledge to produce results. * Good understanding of statistical methods, six sigma methodologies, DOE Previous experience in designing assemblies or components. * Previous experience in working with suppliers is preferred.
