The Mechanical Reliability & Equipment Engineer Role
The Central Reliability Group at Sabine River Works has been on a path to achieving world class capability in a wide range of technologies for several years. Reliability Engineers are focused on developing/maintaining programs and systems which consistently shift the maintenance and operation of the site’s facilities to a more proactive, data-driven, and condition-based asset management approach. A balanced skill-set for Reliability Engineers is encouraged with a mix of strong technical equipment knowledge to improve individual asset performance and more advanced statistical analysis of CMMS and equipment performance data to prioritize efforts. Reliability Engineers are expected to act as “Change Agents” in the unit that they are assigned to and are supported in this task by the Site Reliability Leader.
Responsibilities
- Perform failure mode and effect analysis to develop appropriate equipment maintenance plans to include equipment checks and Preventive & Predictive Maintenance (PPM)
- Perform PPM effectiveness assessment at appropriate timings
- Assess & develop capability of mechanics on their role in reliability improvement and MIQA
- Define Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) trigger points & implement corrective and improvement plans resulting from the RCFAs
- Perform & document equipment criticality analysis
- Analyze data (failure, cost, UPtime, etc) using appropriate reliability analysis tools to develop & implement improvement plans
- Lead reliability improvement teams
- Perform or arrange for physical failure analysis
- Teach physical failure analysis & evidence preservation techniques
- Work with plant engineering, purchasing and plant’s stores organizations to develop & execute appropriate Quality Assurance (QA) practices
- Assess effectiveness of QA practices
- Work with plant’s inspector group to ensure appropriate inspection technologies are being used and assessing quality of inspection plans
- Review inspection reports and analyze data to determine fitness for service, quality of inspection, appropriate inspection interval, etc.
- Use of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies to determine appropriate inspection methodologies and intervals.
The Sabine River Works site employs approximately 910 DuPont employees and a large number of contractors. Comprised of several business units, SRW includes: Autoclaves (Units C/D/G), Copolymer Specialties (CSD), Incinerator (SES), Power Generation (water/steam/co-gen), and Ethylene. The units work cooperatively to produce pellets that are used in a variety of products including: perfume bottle caps, food packaging, and golf balls – to name a few.

Minimum Skills Required
- Education and Experience
• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Required

Functional Skills
- Capable of writing mechanical design packages for highly hazardous chemical processes.
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn principles and techniques including:
- Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
- Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
- Maintenance and reliability best practices
- Predictive techniques for fixed, rotating, power distribution equipment and instrumentation e.g. vibration analysis, nondestructive testing, thermography, etc.

General Skills
- Must have extremely good oral and written communication skills
- Must have a demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and all basic software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
