Bloom Energy, a solid oxide fuel cell company, is looking for an Installation Quality Engineer to join our world class team. This individual will be responsible for evaluating all of our preconstruction processes, from Sales to Breaking Ground, to develop a detailed workflow process with comprehensive and customizable steps to accommodate varying geographic and municipal requirements.
The Installation Quality Engineer will report to the Senior Installation Quality Manager and will be a member of the Quality team while integrated cross functionally with Sales, Field and Install Applications Engineering as well as Construction, System Install and Service organizations. This position will be located in the greater New York City area and will primarily operate in the Field with additional travel to our offices in Delaware and Sunnyvale, CA.

Role And Responsibilities
• The Installation Quality Engineer will be responsible for identifying site design and construction obstacles, developing and expediting solutions as well as implementing permanent standardized process improvements from sales contract through to customer acceptance of fuel cell power servers. To accomplish this you will work with all Cross Functional teams including the Customer Installation Group (CIG) Site Supervisors and Project Managers to investigate root causes and resolve design and permission issues as well as driving the implementation of effective countermeasures. • Provide Technical Support to the Sales team with Bid and Proposal writing to accurately capture all projected interconnection, engineering, product, construction and system reliability obstacles and resulting nonstandard costs unique to each installation • Provide technical support on interconnection requirements to the customer and Sales, Field Applications, Site Design, Installations and Quality Engineering teams • The Installation Quality Engineer will be responsible for evaluating current processes and completed projects to identify clear benchmarks and strategies and implement necessary process changes to consistently meet those benchmarks on every following project. • Ability to define, collect and track relevant data (KPIs – Key Performance Indicators) for Sales, Applications Engineering and Site Design Engineering. Evaluate data for accuracy and use to track efficiency, cost and capacity to achieve early problem identification and effective resolutions • Investigate and clearly document utility requirements, rules and tariffs in new installation territories and drive internal process adherence to unique and standard requirements • Work with customers, Sales, Application Engineering, Installations, Field Service and Technical Support to create escalation and resolution processes for acute and chronic problem resolution related to customer installations • As a member of the Quality organization the Sr. Installation Quality Engineer is expected to drive continuous improvement • The Installation Quality Engineer will be responsible for influencing multi-level cross functional teams to adopt a perspective and practice of continuous process improvement. • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner for a non-technical audience • Understands the requirement of delivering high quality communication, products, services and system reliability that meet or exceed the expectation of unique and repeat customers • Identify, evaluate and correct issues with cross functional teams (Sales, Application Engineering, Site Design Engineering) when deviating from standard process that pose risk to process efficiency, timelines and customer satisfaction • Responsible for providing technical feedback to Engineering , Product and Project Management members based on customer engagement and feedback with intent to eliminate barriers prior to impacting construction, install and commissioning of fuel cell power servers at customer sites • Create, evaluate and improve process documentation and training as needed to eliminate future deviations from established processes
Skills And Experience
• 5 – 7 years of experience in Construction and Design. Experience with Power Generation is a plus • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Focus and Experience in Civil or Electrical Engineering is highly desired • Fully understand the process of calculating construction costs and how it can be standardized and improved • A comprehensive understanding of a broad set of engineering and construction solutions • Experience working with a variety of local building codes and permitting processes. Nationwide experience is a plus • Ability to perform in-depth root cause analysis and create reports including A3, 8D, etc. • Prior experience conducting or participating in construction process evaluations to increase efficiency and reduce cost overages • Proficiency with Excel for tracking and reporting • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Agile, Kaizen, TQM methodologies is a plus
