Job Summary/Mission

The Product Reliability Engineer’s mission is:

  • to participate in cross functional product development teams to deploy design or test methods for attaining specified operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and legacy product and application knowledge.
  • to analyze conceptual designs and develop a reliability engineering plan that will allow the project to achieve its reliability objectives.
  • to measure, analyze and report the degree by which the company’s subsystems, products, platforms and solutions meet their specified performance and reliability requirements specification at different stages in the product lifecycle.

Principal Activities / Duties / Responsibilities

  • Work with project teams to lead and execute the process of testing/measuring product performance and reliability during the design and qualification of PTM projects, CPE projects, Change Orders (process, product, suppliers), Business Opportunities
  • including printing systems, sub-assemblies, components, consumables (e.g. ink), accessories, manuals/documentation.

  • Work with the Product Reliability and Regulatory Compliance Manager to make recommendations for qualification sample size, test duration, test types, etc. in order to assure the demonstrated reliability targets are met and that the engineering solution meets the requirements specification.

  • Maintain and improve the product performance and reliability testing methodologies, procedures and equipment.

  • Lead global cross functional teams in root cause analysis, failure modes analysis, design reviews
  • Utilize reliability engineering tools where appropriate (ALT, HALT, FMEA etc) to ensure products designs have high reliability
  • Perform qualification and field test failure analysis working with project engineering team
  • assure failures are properly reported, analyzed, and corrective action is implemented
  • provide first level troubleshooting/failure analysis.
  • Lead and execute Ongoing Reliability Testing through long-term internal testing, customer site testing, and manufacturing sample testing.
  • Working with the Product Reliability and Regulatory Compliance Manager, provide reliability analysis.
  • Support field testing through the creation of test protocols, data collection formats, and customer surveys. Analyze and report field test data.

  • Collect, report and maintain records of all tests. Support/assist PRRC technicians with data collection and reporting methods.

  • Provide technical direction to the Product Reliability and Regulatory Compliance technicians (e.g. test setup, troubleshooting/failure analysis).
  • Support design validation testing.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement by suggesting relevant proposals concerning products, processes, methods, tools. 14 Develop, implement, maintain and improve the company’s product performance and reliability testing expertise, methodologies and equipment;

  • Participate in the setting of product performance metrics and requirements, reliability and uptime metrics and requirements; in accordance with the company’s Product To Market Process and Research to Development process.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of reliability principles (and/or applied reliability statistics)
  • Math skills
  • statistics and their application relative to reliability estimation/measurement.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience with Reliability engineering Tools such as ALT, HALT, FMEA
  • Experience with statistical software such as MiniTab
  • Strong skills to interpret/analyze mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, diagrams
  • Strong understanding of machine subsystems and inter-relationships, as well as relationship to a main system
  • Strong ability to work in global cross functional teams.
  • Experience with team facilitation (FMEA)
  • Experienced with systems that are a combination of mechanical, electrical and software elements.
  • A good understanding of the Customer’s requirements, expectations, and application environments as it relates to product/system performance.
  • Excel charting and graphing
  • Experience data collection equipment
  • Experience with LAN (Ethernet based or wireless based)
  • Experience with barcode symbology, scanning, validation a plus
  • Experience with machine control languages (e.g. DCP, NGCPL) a plus
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and technical writing

Required Experience

  • Master of Science Degree in Sciences preferred, Bachelors in Science is required (preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering)
  • 5 plus years of experience in industrial new product development or manufacturing
  • 2-5 years as a reliability, test, quality engineer
