Description: The Hardware Reliability Engineer will join Fitbit’s existing Reliability Group, working across Fitbit’s product range of existing and new developments on qualification and validation of components, sub-assemblies to system level. His/Her main responsibility will be to develop and implement test methodologies and coordinate tests to continuously enhance product reliability. The test area stretches across a variety of mechanical and electrical assemblies, requiring experience with diverse test methods and equipment. This role requires interaction with multiple cross-functional teams and test facilities, local and international, and across multiple products in varying development and production stages.

Responsibilities: 

  • Product design reviews throughout all design stages, resulting in design of test fixtures, test suites and applications to support qualification of new features and technology
  • Open and dynamic approach to problem solving by deploying adequate tests and creativity in test development
  • Develop accelerated test conditions
  • based on appropriate methods
  • to demonstrate performance per product requirement
  • Correlate test methods and results to field cases, understand field failure issues and trends and provide feedback to Fitbit stakeholders
  • Allocate resources, coordinate basic logistics and support test efforts in collaboration with laboratory test personnel; prioritize, ensure timely execution of tests and ensure consistent failure analysis
  • Complete review of test and failure analysis, apply practical statistical methods and conclude report with data analysis and performance predictions
  • Grow Fitbit’s reliability test efforts to a fast and efficient product qualification and verification from early development throughout mass production
  • Stay abreast of development of test methods and in statistical analysis of test results to continuously develop and improve reliability test specifications.
  • Travel will be variable however may exceed 30% during periods. Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Physics or related field or minimum of 8 years in a hardware reliability test environment. ASQ Reliability Engineer Certification (CRE) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with testing of electronics and mechanical assemblies, evaluation of material performance a plus; expertise in sensors and instrumentation, data acquisition of temperature, vibration, load, strain and voltage using bench top test equipment or custom solutions
  • Demonstrate solid foundation and application of reliability engineering test methods and statistical models; Minimum of 8 year familiarity in failure analysis and product life prediction, using appropriate statistical methods/tools (Minitab, JMP, Weibull)
  • Expert knowledge of accelerated life testing theory and methods (development, planning and execution); practical HALT/HASS background strongly preferred.
  • Able to design, direct and conduct Design of Experiments (DoE)
  • Experience in operating typical test equipment (chambers, vibration tables etc.) and their typical profiles, including test automation development and data acquisition
  • Ability to communicate at a high level both verbally and written (in English)
  • Background in the high tech and consumer electronics; develop key requirements/plans, communicate them and drive execution to that plans
  • Solid project management skills and ability to stay on top of multiple simultaneous projects in various development and production stages
  • Proven track record of success in a fast-paced, high volume consumer electronics environment
