High Voltage Reliability Engineering Specialist - Kennewick, WA
The HV Reliability Engineer will provide front-line, high-voltage (HV) substation support to operating wind farms across the Company. You will serve, in conjunction with other High-Voltage Reliability Engineering staff and the Electrical Engineer in Houston, as the Company’s subject matter expert on essentially all HV issues.
Main Accountabilities
· Provide electrical, high-voltage, and substation support to operating wind farms, including constant on-call support
· Provide support regarding electrical design, engineering, testing, and construction as requested
· Support and coordinate commissioning, start-up, and initial operating activities
· Manage and oversee the HV spare parts inventory and warehouse
· Perform HV switching of step-down transformers, feeder breakers, and related components
· Participate in the engineering, design, and construction review processes, including review of collection system, substation, and transmission line designs
· Develop and implement site betterment projects, including preparation of scope documents, exhibits, budgets, schedules, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
· Support and coordinate substation maintenance at company facilities with OTOs and outage planning
· Perform substation and HV monthly audits and inspections on equipment in keeping with NERC requirements
· Perform emergency and routine repairs that do not require specialized tools, materials, or permits
· Train on-site staff to perform IR thermography, provides general HV training, and prepare others to operate on the collection system and substation
· Additional duties as required
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 7+ years of relevant technical experience
REQUIRED LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Necessary qualifications to operate HV equipment
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Expert knowledge of medium- and high-voltage substation electrical equipment, collection systems, and transmission design and operations

Ability to apply pertinent industry standards and codes, including Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
Sufficient schedule flexibility to travel frequently
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license
Experience with power generation or distribution preferred
Experience with establishing HV field service preferred
Ability to occasionally perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations in order to inspect equipment or collect information
Ability to climb turbine towers up to 95 meters in height
Ability and willingness to respond to site emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as needed
