At Wayfair, we are looking to grow our Site Reliability Systems team by bringing on board a talented individual to help manage the large scale physical and virtual server environment that underpins our global e-commerce platform. Though the focus of this team is Linux, due to the nature of our platforms you will be involved with and exposed to a wide variety of systems. This team owns a large portion of our customer facing systems and services, and as such are heavily involved in the architecture, growth, and improvement of our various platforms. With our traffic doubling year over year consistently we are faced with some pretty exciting and interesting challenges!

  • Enhance our infrastructure to support a variety of different disaster recovery options

Responsibilities Include

  • Providing general Linux server administration and troubleshooting for an environment covering over 2000 hosts, both physical and VMWare virtualized.
  • Deploying and migrating production systems, and tuning configurations to improve application performance
  • Converting one-off and stand-alone systems to use our standard templates and management framework
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve technical issues that affect the production environment acting as the highest level of escalation within the organization.
  • Improve security and performance of infrastructure.

  • Work with other teams to provide consultations in systems architecture support for new and existing production systems.

  • Proactively keep an eye on the systems to anticipate business needs before they occur

Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree from a 4-year college or university
  • Experience managing an internal Linux distribution in a large scale environment
  • Experience working with Linux automation tools, such as Puppet, Chef, or Capistrano
  • Knowledge of Web Servers (Apache/Ningx)
  • Familiarity with load balancing tools and techniques (HAProxy , etc)
  • Experience working in virtualized environments, such as Xen, VMWare, VirtualBox
  • Familiarity with IP and Ethernet networks as well as transport protocols
  • Scripting ability a plus, particularly Bash, PHP, Python or Ruby
