At the Merck Manufacturing facility in Elkton, Virginia, we currently have a Senior Reliability Engineer position available at the Stonewall Plant; which is located in the Shenandoah Valley along the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The facility is just a short distance from major state universities: University of Virginia and James Madison University.   The Sr. Specialist – engineering (reliability engineer) is responsible for providing reliability maintenance engineering leadership and support to ensure optimum business performance in equipment, systems, documentation and asset utilization in utilizing, risk based asset management (RBAM), predictive maintenance technologies and lean/six sigma principles.   Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Update equipment data, Preventive Maintenance, Task Lists and diagnostic methods as necessary to improve reliability
  • Compile and review data and develops equipment or skid specific action plans for critical assets to improve reliability and reduce product costs
  • Develop lead metrics and tracks metrics on assets and other KPI’s
  • Develop and manage predictive maintenance program.
  • Conducts Maintenance effectiveness / optimization reviews
  • Develop and reviews rankings of maintenance material cost, downtime hours and labor hours spent on assets and develop action plans to reduce spending and downtime.
  • Initiate and executes change controls as needed as well as managing capital projects for any upgrades or asset replacements
  • Be the primary lead for maintenance issues and initiatives in the assigned areas.
  • Adjust equipment task lists, spare parts, frequencies, and information as appropriate based on trends, approved changes, and/or business requirements.
  • Update/create SOPs as appropriate based on trends, changes, and/or business requirements.
  • Review completed work notification and orders for GMP adherence and appropriate documentation of work performed.
  • Serve as liaison for IPTs when working with other COEs (GES, Site Safety, Site Services, Plant Engineering, etc) or outside contractors.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Ten (10) years experience with reliability engineering, electrical distribution systems in manufacturing or technical support, including project management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated oral/presentation and written communication skills across levels and departments
  • Demonstrated technical writing (i.e. technical communications, procedures)
  • Demonstrated computer skills (MS Office) Preferred Experience:

  • MS, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Profession Certifications
  • Professional Engineer, CMRP, CEM
  • Proficient in MS Access and Project
