Job Description

Hagie Manufacturing is seeking a qualified candidate to be part of our on-site design team in Clarion, IA. Hagie Manufacturing is a leader in the agricultural industry in providing crop protection solutions to customers. As a member of our design team, you will work to design components and/or complex systems on existing products and new products. The position will require evaluation of products, parts, and processes for cost efficiency and reliability. You will work with other members of the engineering staff in a team environment to ensure that production is completed in a timely manner. This position reports to a lead engineer.

Job Description And Duties

  • Design:

  • Design structural components in accordance with machine application and loading conditions
  • Scope of design work may include mainframes, suspension structure, attachments, and secondary structures such as tank cradles
  • Complete structural analysis utilizing FEA software to ensure components will meet factor of safety criteria
  • Complete fatigue analysis of components and welds using appropriate methods
  • Design for sheet metal / plate fabrication processes
  • Design for welding processes
  • Coordinate with other design groups for component installation provisions
  • Interact with suppliers and vendors to select components
  • Design in conformance to all appropriate industry standards
  • Create detailed engineering drawings in conformance to Hagie drafting standards
  • Engage and participate in all relevant engineering activities including DFMEAs, design reviews, tolerance stack-ups, engineering changes requests
  • Coordinate parts procurement for prototype builds
  • Work with test engineers to specify test plans to validate components. Determine appropriate gauges, gauge locations, test stand or track specifications in order to make accurate predictions of component strain, stress, and fatigue.
  • Correlate test data with analysis predictions; make revisions to design to improve component performance.
  • Investigate and implement cost reduction strategies

  • Project Management:

  • Ensures projects are within cost targets and delivered on time
  • Ensures cross functional team interaction on all projects
  • Communicates clearly and professionally to wide variety of audiences (sales manufacturing, business leaders, customers)

Required Experience

  • 4 year BS degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, or other related engineering field preferred
  • 3-5 years previous experience in a design related position
  • Candidate must demonstrate a proven mechanical aptitude through education, employment, or personal experience
  • Experience using Solid Works is a plus
  • Experience using FEA tools such as Solidworks Simulation is a plus
