The Houston Crop Manufacturing Site (HMS) manufactures Kocide ® which is a copper-based fungicide for the Crop Protection Business. We are the sole supplier of Kocide ® worldwide. Kocide ® is global leader in the market of copper fungicides with about 75% of the market share in the US. The Kocide ® business is strong with both a healthy gross margin and sales globally. The site has a strong history of safety and environmental performance with over 11 years without a single recordable injury or PSM Cat A or B release. The site has earned the ISO 9001 Quality 3 rd party certification since 2012 and has very strong quality systems.

Position Description

The Reliability and Equipment Engineer & MIQA Leader role will manage and lead both strategic long-term programs/projects as well as address short-term operational issues. This role builds collaborative relationships with varying levels of organization from mechanics to management. This role provides leadership for the Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance requirements of DuPont standard S21A at the site with the goal of preventing Process Safety Incidents at sites due to MIQA deficiencies. This role also includes the Mechanical Integrity (MI) PSM element leader as part of the site’s PSM Committee (QA element leader may be separate) and drives this element so that PSM critical process equipment is installed, maintained and operated in a safe and reliable manner over the life of a facility. The MIQA leader owns and is responsible for reporting the MIQA metrics for the site. The Reliability Engineer (RE) is responsible for stewarding and leading reliability improvements in the plant. The RE will track plant key performance indicators such as MTBF and repair cost for equipment and combine this information with Uptime data to develop areas for targeted reliability improvements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead upgrades to equipment by implementing modifications ranging from incremental daily improvements to technology changes.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise in troubleshooting equipment issues, evaluation of equipment failures, and technical recommendations for repairs / upgrades.
  • Work on optimizing preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in development of improved reliability strategies with a view of process safety, yields, capacity and uptime performance.
  • Actively participate and lead, as appropriate, the site SAP PM implementation and data master improvement process.
  • Participate in reviewing and updating equipment preventive/predictive maintenance plans for all equipment using tools such as FMEA and RAGAGEPs.
  • Develop job scopes with contractors for major equipment repairs.
  • Lead reliability improvement efforts around specific equipment and processes.
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for equipment failures as necessary.
  • Generate documentation and procedures to help institutionalize the reliability improvements that they help generate.
  • Provide engineering and reliability expertise for plant projects and PHA’s.
  • Participate in front-end loading and design to insure reliability is built into the design of equipment and processes.
  • Provide functional and technical leadership for capital projects execution, as assigned.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Decision Board meetings and drive programs, as assigned. MIQA Leader:

  • Membership of Site PSM Committee
  • Develops and Owns Site MIQA Manual
  • Represents the Site to the Regional MIQA network
  • Understands Regional and Local Jurisdictional MIQA Requirements
  • Coordinates, Provides Training and Promotes Awareness of All Aspects of MIQA on Site
  • Participates in Definition of Site PSM Critical Equipment
  • Tracks and Reviews MIQA Metrics Regarding Site Performance
  • Participates in all A, B and C Incident Investigations With a Suspected MIQA Root Cause
  • Ensure MIQA Requirements are Incorporated in the Computerized Maintenance Management systems (SAPPM)
  • Conducts First Party MIQA Audits and participates in MIQA Second Party Audits of the Site The HMS Site is part of the DuPont Co., but is currently in the process of transitioning to a new owner Kocide ® LLC. (Subsidiary of Mitsui company) by 3Q16. Mitsui is a global Fortune 500 Corporation with holdings across many different markets, products and manufacturing sites. The site will maintain its strong safety, PSM, quality and ethics culture under the new ownership and we are very excited for the new opportunities that this transition offers to the copper fungicides business. The site is located in Houston, which offers all the amenities of a large Metro area.

Basic Qualification

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years mechanical engineering experience
  • 3+ years industrial plant experience

Additional Experience And Knowledge

  • Understanding of PSM systems, high hazard process, equipment fabrication, etc.
  • Basic understanding of rotating equipment including alignment and other millwright techniques, vibration interpretation, lubrication principles, and analysis report interpretation.
  • Basic understanding of maintenance and reliability best practices including the work management process
  • Data analysis techniques and statistical interpretation skills
  • Basic Materials Science including material selection and properties
  • Fundamentals of nondestructive testing including thermography
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Engineering design standards and their application
