Johnson Matthey, a specialty chemicals company, has a vacancy for a Reliability Engineer within the Pharmaceutical Materials Business Unit at our Conshohocken, PA site.

Position Purpose

This position is responsible for guiding efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities and controls for the Maintenance Department at Johnson Matthey Pharmaceutical Materials. The Reliability Engineer will identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. This role also includes loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management. The incumbent works with the Maintenance Manager to c onduct analysis/ investigations of reliability problems. The Particular consideration is given to cost limitations (for equipment up/down time, repair/replacement), weight, size, and availability of materials/equipment. Determines cost advantages of alternative equipment and reliability processes. Develops action plans to avoid failures and comply with production demands.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participates in development of design, installation specifications, commissioning plans, criteria for evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers/technical maintenance service providers.
  • Assists in development of acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
  • Participates in the final commissioning of new installations.
  • Create and monitors an asset maintenance plan that includes :
  • Value-added preventive maintenance tasks for new and existing equipment.
  • Effective utilization of predictive testing methodologies that identify reliability problems.
  • Provides input to a risk management plan that anticipates reliability and non-reliability risks.
  • Develops engineering solutions to failures and problems that adversely affect plant operations (including capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance).
  • Applies data analysis techniques that could include :
  • Statistical process control, Reliability modeling and prediction
  • Fault tree analysis, Weibull analysis, Six Sigma methodology
  • Root cause analysis (RCA) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA)
  • Failure reporting, analysis and corrective action system (FRACAS)
  • Works with Production to perform analyses of assets including :
  • Asset utilization, Equipment effectiveness, remaining useful life and costs.
  • Applies value analysis to repair/replace, repair/design and make/buy decisions.
  • Maintains in depth knowledge of appropriate Company and Federal, State and Local regulatory rules, procedures and policies.
  • Provides support at the Johnson Matthey Pharmaceutical Materials remote site.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Essential Skills And Experience

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of maintenance and reliability, production management, engineering or operations experience.
  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical knowledge and aptitude; a bility to interpret technical drawings and repair manuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including writing technical reports.
  • Team focused with ability to interact effectively with employees.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and the tools associated with failure detection (i.e. vibration analysis, oil monitoring and thermography) as well as the software associated with them.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (EXCEL, WORD, PROJECT) and condition monitoring software.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to meet aggressive deadlines.
