Mechanical Design Engineer – Wind Turbine Nacelle Systems Orlando, FL

This position is for a mechanical engineer that has in depth knowledge of mechanical system design specific to wind turbine applications. The candidate shall have relevant design experience in the area of design and specification of specification of electro-mechanical assemblies (wind turbine yaw systems) , bedplate castings, fluid cooling systems, as well as an overall knowledge of mechanical structures and analysis (welding, casting, and forgings). The candidate will be a regionally based part of the global technology engineering team in Denmark responsible for supporting the geared product line.

Responsibilities: • Primary responsible engineer for the design and update of wind turbine nacelle systems. • Participate in the development and evaluation of mechanical wind turbine systems as a regional technical expert for mechanical systems including but not limited to the areas of electro-mechanical yaw system, bedplate castings, fluid cooling systems and mechanical structures. • Create and analyze technical reports necessary to document the steps of the design process. • Lead design and product update efforts for nacelle ensuring all product development process (PDP) deliverables are delivered. • Responsible for dispositioning non-conformance issues reported by suppliers, in the factory or at installation sites. •Responsible for supporting supply chain organization by interfacing with nacelle component suppliers to provide clarification to design drawings and specifications, participate in qualification process of new suppliers including visits to supplier manufacturing facilities. • Exhibit an ability to diagnose issues with running equipment or equipment in production, based on site or factory reports and communication. •Utilizing information from the field and factory, determine root cause and corrective action to resolve issues in both production and field installation environments. •Candidate shall be capable of providing a detailed repair instruction and bill of materials, which result in increased equipment availability and reliability. •Candidate will be responsible for collaborating with regional and global teams to ensure designs are corrected or developments are carried out to resolve design issues. •This senior level position involves supporting Service Technology in North America and support of the long term repair of equipment.

Requirements: •BS or higher in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university. •Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience • Preferred experience or course work in the areas of equipment design and manufacture, machine shop principles, and machine repair practices. • Hands on experience with 3D CAD design systems to aid in the design process. • Strong analytical skills and theoretical background in mechanical systems • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong team player • Knowledge of Siemens Wind Turbine equipment and Siemens Design methodology beneficial. • Ability to travel 20% after initial training. Initial training will be approximately 3 months in Denmark working with the design teams.
