As a Senior Service Engineer you will be working within a quickly maturing “devops” engineering culture where everyone is deeply focused on service maturity, live site reliability and modern engineering principles. You will be embedded into the engineering design process and expected to work closely with program managers and software engineering peers on technical design, continuous improvement of the service over time and driving a high degree of data driven decision making. The goal is a highly reliable near real time intelligence and analytics platform and set of services to enable agile business decisions. Specific responsibilities include: Collaborate continuously with Program Managers, Software Engineering and our business users in order to ensure the reliability, availability and performance of our near real time intelligence and analytics platforms.Apply full understanding of the business, the customer, and the solutions that a business offers to effectively design, develop, and implement operational capabilities, tools and processes that enable highly available, scalable & reliable customer experiences.Use technical analysis to assess the availability, latency, scalability and efficiency of the service or infrastructure by engineering reliability into software and systems Utilize deep knowledge of operations engineering, connected services, and information technology plus knowledge of industry best practices to innovate and influence operational approaches and solutions. Provide leadership during outages by effectively guiding incident response where root cause is unknown for cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and help provide solutions to address database, OS, application, network and any other issues.Identifying underlying root causes and providing recommendations or solutions for long term permanent fixes to critical production issues.Heavy focus on driving efficiencies through automation and tools, if it is manually done today you are super passionate and technically capable to automate it! Build business continuity and disaster recovery plans, ensure they are tested regularly.Develop high quality monitoring and reporting solutions that address our live site needs.Creating, developing & managing the deployment architecture and processes for the service. In some cases, you may be contributing to the deployment automation itself and driving improvements to further automate over time. Solve problems relating to mission critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence; with the goal of automating response to all non-exceptional service conditions.Engage in service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis and system tuning.Basic Qualifications:•Demonstrated ability to seek out and leverage data driven insights that foster continuous •Deep experience in performance diagnostics, capacity planning, performance architecture design, performance tuning, performance monitoring, etc. •Ability to write automation including potential tool development for operational needs •Extensive experience with Azure services required•Experience with monitoring platforms such as CMA, SCOM, AppInsights, etc. •8+ years or equivalent work experience•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent work experiencePreferred Qualifications:•Advanced Troubleshooting, Debugging & Diagnostics relevant for large data warehouses and near real time analytics. •Operational background with understanding of ITIL including Incident & Problem Management•Certification or hands on experience in using Six Sigma or any other data-driven approach or methodology is a big plus to help define service KPIs and drive data driven service improvements.•Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills •Demonstrated ability to seek out and leverage data driven insights that foster continuous improvement.•Demonstrated comfort in a frequently changing landscape as it responds to meet our user and customer expectations. •Demonstrated continuous learner, always looking to expand your knowledge and experiences that enable you to consistently drive high quality impact to Microsoft and for our customers. •Constant curiosity, expand your understanding of your services and how those light up success for our users and customers.
