Professional Engineer - Data Center Technical Consultant

Uptime Institute Professional Services is growing to meet the demand of the industry and seeks a well qualified individual to assist in its vigorous global expansion. Position Description: Reporting to the Managing Director of the region, the principal role will be to deliver a variety of Certification & Consulting services, primarily within the North America/Central America region and travelling globally as required. The Consultant will be responsible for performing Tier Assessments of the designs and construction of data centers and other critical facilities, applying the Uptime Institute’s Tier Standards methodology. The Consultant will develop narrative-based reports, memos, or other deliverables that, in a clear, concise and accurate fashion, document both shortcomings and solutions to achieving the critical facility owner’s expected outcomes. As the Consultant’s experience and mastery of Uptime standards and methods increases, the Consultant will take an active role in mentoring and supporting other team members in the delivery of Tier Assessments, and will perform on-site reviews of data center facility management processes and procedures against the Uptime Institute Standards for Operational Sustainability and Efficient IT management. The Consultant will also deliver Uptime courses such as the Accredited Tier Designer training. Additionally, the Consultant will participate in, or be responsible for, development of IP including publications, concepts, and/or presentations. Presentation of this new and existing IP in Uptime Institute, 451 Research, or other industry events will be a key aspect of this job.
Desired Skills and Experience
In order to be successful in this position, Uptime Institute Professional Services seeks the following credentials and experience: Required - Engineering degree (mechanical, electrical, civil, industrial, facilities) or P.Eng/P.E license/certification. - Either:
- 5 years of experience with an Engineering, Construction or Infrastructure Equipment Vendor firm focused on design and/or construction of data centers; OR
- 5 years of experience in operating a data center’s facility infrastructure with experience in:
- Preventive Maintenance Programs
- Maintenance Management Systems
- Standard Operating Procedures
- Methods of Procedures

Space, Power, and Cooling management
- Strong understanding of typical data center electrical and mechanical systems
- Good working knowledge of the IT systems typically deployed in a data center environment
- A willingness to learn and apply the Uptime Institute Tier Classification System concepts
- Acceptance of domestic and international travel requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Fluency in English – written and spoken and one additional language (Fluency in Turkish or German highly preferred) Desired
- Previous job experience requiring consultative problem solving
- Demonstrated ability to write technical articles
- Facility Management degree
- Proven experience in developing and delivering high reliability and high efficiency solutions in critical IT environments
