This position will be responsible for assisting in development and implementation of safety protocols, environmental compliance and manufacturing strategy. Qualified candidates must be a self starter with proven leadership and communication skills. Duties will include, but not be limited to: Occasional supervision of Exide hourly and salary employees, and outside contractors in the completion of environmental, facility, and process improvement projects, in addition to managing projects from conception through completion. Successful candidates will possess the ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds, skills, and education levels to complete projects in an efficient and organized manner.
- Liaison with and at times direct supervision of hourly and/or salaried employees.
- Serve as back-up to Maintenance and Engineering Manager. Including daily tasks, supervision of hourly staff, budget analysis, and other duties as requested.
- Work with Production and Lean Departments to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new and existing equipment
- Lead and/or participate in training of supervisory and hourly staff on SOPs
- Develop and maintain library of plant site drawings, equipment drawings, process flow diagrams and electrical prints
- Work with plant operations and Environmental personnel to implement systems that ensure the plant operates in compliance with all required Environmental and Safety regulations.
- Work from concepts to build experimental equipment, conduct trials, and translate results into firm equipment designs.
- Responsible for preparation of project cost quotes and managing projects within budget requirements.
- Develop project scope, project justifications, and project requirements. Assist in writing of CER’s for Capital Projects
- Implementation and completion of both capital and expense projects on time and within budget.

As required, assist Engineering and Maintenance Manager with supervision and coordination of contractors in completion of plant projects.
- Execute various system and equipment upgrade projects from conceptualization to start up in the areas of environmental, facility, and process improvements.
- Coordinating project activities involving internal maintenance.
- Develop new concepts, techniques and equipment for better process controls or production improvements.
- Integrate projects and assignments with other departments.
- Work with Lean Department on Kaizen events.
- Determine necessary actions and delegate resources effectively to increase OEE, reliability, efficiency, and quality
- Make oral and written presentations to confer with Management and corporate staff regarding problems or procedures relating to engineering modifications to facilities or equipment.
- Work with Quality Department to find root cause solutions to quality problems.
- Perform FMEA and Root Cause Failure Analysis.

Perform other duties as directed by Engineering and Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other applicable Engineering discipline
- One to Five years manufacturing experience in an engineering role, preferably in a Metal Processing Industry.
- High aptitude for manufacturing facility maintenance and engineering.
- Strong decision making skills, ability to look at current and future needs of business as directly related to production and efficiency.
- Demonstrated proficiency in hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical operations
- Must be able to multi-task, and handle multiple projects simultaneously, easily adapt to changing situations.
- Demonstrated ability in logical and efficient problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficient with MS Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Word) and AutoCAD.
- Experience with PLC programing a plus
- Experience with Reverberatory or Blast Furnaces a plus.
- Experience with Maintenance Software MP2 a plus.

Experience with Toyota Production Systems, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma Certification a plus. LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently exposed to fumes, dust, airborne particles, and extreme heat and humidity.
While much work will be performed in an office setting, significant time will be required in the manufacturing facility, where additional exposure is likely.
Noise levels in the manufacturing facility are usually high.
All employees are required to wear full face respirators inside the manufacturing facility.
Qualified candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb with minimal effort.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds
