SERVICE ENGINEER
SharePoint Online (SPO) is adding to its team of experts focused on Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). In this role you will see the hardest, most interesting problems in delivering SharePoint as a service at Scale. The SRE Team is responsible for availability, reliability and Performance in all go to market offerings for the Office 365 SharePoint Online Service. You will, on a daily basis, drive critical service improvements in reliability, performance and availability at the core layer in the service. You will be responsible for the ultimate service experience for millions of consumer and enterprise users on the Office 365 SharePoint Online Service Platform.Team/Department Mission Office 365 (O365) is leading a software + service transformation by moving traditional on-premise software to services that live in the cloud. Today we are one of the top 4 hosted service providers in the world with millions of seats sold and active on our platform.Key AccountabilitiesManage availability, latency, scalability and efficiency of Microsoft services by engineering reliability into software and systems.Respond to and resolve emergent service problems; write software and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Software performance analysis and system tuning. Review and influence ongoing design, architecture, standards and methods for operating services and systemsPrescribe remediation across entire Sharepoint Online platform when applicablePartner with core product development teams to improve the SharePoint Online service and product.Deliver engineering to drive higher availability and reliability in the SharePoint Online ServiceManage the service at scaleKey Success CriteriaMaintain highly available online service to customer; meeting or exceeding 99.9% availability of Sharepoint Online serviceKnowledge, Skills and Experience1) Essential ExperienceCandidate must have extensive experience in enterprise level technical depth in one or more technologies supporting SharePoint products, including Sharepoint 2010Sharepoint 2013Office 365SQL ServerIISWindows ServerNetworkingAuthentication 2) Technical/Functional SkillsAs part of this team we are cultivating experts in key areas necessary to deliver hosted SharePoint in the cloud. To this end, the base expectation is a functional knowledge of SharePoint and associated technologies including:Architecture SQL IIS PowerShellScalePerformanceDebugging3) Personal Attributes/Interpersonal SkillsSpecialty in one or more of the following areas is required. You don’t have to be the best at all of these, but in your current role you’d probably be considered the ‘go to’ person for one or more of these:In depth SharePoint administration principalsLarge scale web farm operations including tuning for high traffic publishing portals Security including environment hardening and intrusion/abuse preventionKnowledge of ASP.NET development techniquesProduction ASP.NET Debugging SQL server administrationSQL High-Availability and disaster recovery design, operational strategy in SQL2008SQL performance analysis and troubleshooting skillsDeep PowerShell automation at scale Web Service design and implementation at scale in C#4) QualificationsBA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field and/or 4 years of relevant work experience in critical production service environment. Expertise in analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed windows systems. Deep understanding in diagnosing ambiguous complex windows server performance and functionality failure modes. PowerShell and/or C#Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
