You are responsible for the overall performance and reliability of SmartBiz’s infrastructure and products. You design and implement the tools that automate building reliable and performant systems. A Typical Day: Work with product engineering teams on design and implementation of large scale distributed systems
Automate as much as humanly possible and always configure as code
Bring ideas to life to help make the lives of engineer’s better
Predict our future failures and work proactively to mitigate them
Advocate & implement reliable design patterns (circuit breakers, graceful degradation)
Working on our next generation internal platform for efficiently automating our AWS infrastructure for ease of use by our product engineers
Automating our alerts configuration tool to work with dynamic thresholds
Building automation around determining the causation and correlation of events in our infrastructure Core Requirements: BS/BA Computer Science degree preferred
5+ years of technical work experience in IT in both small and large-scale global organizations
Comprehensive experience in servers, networking, security, software and business apps support.
Strong network experience with solid understanding of TCP/IP, networking, firewalls, routers and switches.
Excellent customer service, face-to-face communication skills and attitude
Excellent people management skills within and across organizations
Ability to excel within an informal startup environment and a flat organizational structure, and provide credible hands-on management to highly qualified engineers
Experience bringing software to production at high scale
An eye for automation and instrumentation
The ability to decompose complex systems and find failure scenarios
Knowledge of AWS services
Contributions to open source software
Dynamic and inspirational technical communicator – both written and verbal
