Job Description
Position Summary
F5’s service employs the use of many layers of in-house engineered hardware, software, and network equipment to provide solutions against Internet-based security threats; particularly large-scale DDoS attacks. As a Site Reliability Engineer you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the production services, and working with architects and developers to ensure reliability and performance of systems.
You will be paired with an engineering team in order to drive operational excellence from development to deployment. Responsibilities
- Monitor and provide break/fix maintenance to systems.
- Perform periodic maintenance such as upgrades to network equipment.
- Maintain documentation for systems such as method of procedures and disaster recovery procedures.
- Develop tools to improve our ability to deploy and monitor systems.
- Work with architects and developers to ensure that systems are designed with ‘operability’ in mind.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for third-tier escalations.
- Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience with ISP-level network support and operations.
- 4 year college degree (BA or BS) or equivalent.
- Operational experience with the enterprise/carrier-class routers and switches (experience with Cisco and/or Juniper required).
- Must have superior routing protocol troubleshooting skills (BGP and OSPF).
- Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, GRE, IPSec, DNS, and SNMP protocols.
- Experience with dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6 network routing environments.
- Operational experience with access control mechanisms to prevent unwanted access.
- Experience with network monitoring and operations support systems.
- Experience with standard network change management and configuration policies.
- Experience with network orchestration tools a plus.
- Excellent troubleshooting and creative problem solving abilities.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table.
- Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.
- Duties require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
- Job may be performed on-site at a customer facility or data center, or in an office environment sitting at a desk or computer table. Job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
