The Role

The ET Intelligence team at Proofpoint believes that the work we do has a real impact not only to our customers, but to the world at-large. Our products have been used to prevent financial and identity theft, and even to help convict criminals. We keep the world safe from bad guys. As a Site Reliability Engineer on our team, you will be developing automation for cloud infrastructure that spans both public and private clouds, and is used regularly by our Fortune 100 customers.

You are a team player; you know automating things provides predictable performance that saves others’ time. You are not satisified with manually checking on things; you strive to build fully-automated instrumentation and alerting. You devote time to thinking about how the systems you build will fail. You are motivated to understand everything you build.

Your day-to-day

  • Develop automated monitoring for cloud systems that can be used to quickly determine service health
  • Debug production issues across our cloud-based platform
  • Participate in on-call rotations along with the rest of the Engineering team
  • Identify infrastructure items that are good candidates for automation and build appropriately
  • Participate in growth planning across a platform of services

  • Continually deploy & test your work, learn new techniques and technologies as a result of peer review and mentorship; share what you have learned with your peers
    What you bring to the team

  • 5+ years experience building automation for production cloud platforms
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, or similar frameworks
  • Prior experience deploying to Linux-based platforms, and experience with Linux internals
  • Experience with public and private cloud environments, especially AWS & OpenStack
  • Prior experience debugging production problems that span multiple stack components
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent degree)
  • (Nice to have: Experience in environments with multi-Terabyte datasets)
