Site Reliability Engineer
NIC Web Services, a startup division within NIC Inc. (NASDAQ:EGOV), the nation’s leading provider of secure web and mobile eGovernment services, seeks a motivated, technical individual to join our team as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE).
The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is responsible for the availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning of NIC’s Web Services and Platform.
NIC’s Platform provides services that run all day, every day in order to facilitate interactions with our eGovernment partners. The SRE uses their deep understanding of NIC’s platform, architecture, people, systems, and processes to continuously improve uptime, response time, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Deliverables/Responsibilities
Support the creation and maintenance of Application Environments Create and Modify Automated Deployment packages, including Puppet modules Participate and lead Deployment Planning meetings as required (UAT, STAGE, PROD) Build or procure, improve, and implement tools for deployment and management of services and applications in *NIX and Windows Environments Build and improve Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings for private Openstack Cloud Application Deployment On-Call for scheduled maintenance windows outside of business hours; scheduled in advance Provide Tier 3 Incident Support for Applications as required to assist internal Support Teams Develop “Best Practices”, common tools, processes and procedures for automation Collaborate with developers to properly automate software build, test and deploy Collaborate with developers and operations teams to automate the creation and configuration of support systems management Maintain SRE’s technical deployment documentation repository Manage assigned project activities to achieve stated project goals, objectives, and schedules. Participate in project inception process (e.g.; task identification, schedules, risk identification, etc.)
Requirements
BS in Computer Science or equivalent with minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in automation, application deployment, and/or systems administration or 8+ years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, automated application deployment Significant proven experience working in *NIX and/or Windows environments (primarily use Server 2008/2012) Experience with TCP/IP concepts Experience with Cloud Technologies (Openstack, AWS, etc..) Experience with programming and scripting languages: Python, Ruby, Bash, Powershell or Similar Languages. (Fluent in at least one, 2 preferred) Excellent written and verbal skills (Documentation is paramount) Comfortable and capable communicator and trainer Experience with automation/configuration management tools: Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or Salt , 1+ year. (Puppet is current tool of choice) Experience with Jenkins/Hudson, Bamboo, Travis CI, etc (Jenkins is current tool of choice) Experience with version control tools such as Git Ability to identify and understand complex problems/issues and develop effective solutions. Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with teams both remote and local.
