Position Overview

Overall, the position entails managing the instrumentation and analyzer population at the Michigan Refining Division. This includes budgeting for planned equipment replacements, troubleshooting existing issues, a working knowledge of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Gas Chromatograph Analyzers, distributive control systems, implementing new solutions and creating new reliability programs targeting longer run-times and safer operations. The position requires a large amount of team work and interfacing with all departments at the Detroit refinery.

Responsibilities

Listed below are the main responsibilities of the Instrument Reliability Engineering position:

  • Provide technical assistance/troubleshooting assistance in resolving instrument design, operation and maintenance problems and contact internal and external experts as required.
  • Develop and review turnaround worklists for inclusion of SIS Testing Requirements, EIV testing, replacement of critical instrumentation, analyzer outage planning and maintenance etc.
  • Utilize reliability tools such as Crow-AMSAA models, failure evaluations, and cost analysis to improve reliability of instrument/analyzer systems.
  • Understand various analyzer technologies and hardware and how they apply to petroleum refining.
  • Understand sample conditioning principles and hardware and how to apply them to process analyzer systems
  • Provide leadership and decision making skills during turnarounds and unplanned equipment outages regarding repair solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise, lead investigations to solve recurring instrumentation/analyzer failures.
  • Establish equipment monitoring plans and control limits.
  • Periodically review instrument equipment corporate specifications for potential improvement based on industry and site specific experience
  • Conduct post-audits to measure the effectiveness of significant reliability related projects and activities.
  • Develop cost justification for reliability improvement projects, prepare reports that monitor and track reliability indicators, provide technical resources and training to support our reliability programs.
  • Revalidate/write procedures for routine PMs, Analyzers, SIS, ESD and EIV testing.
  • Develop and monitor statistical quality control practices for analytical equipment and interface with the control lab for effectiveness.
  • Have a working knowledge of ISA standards including ISA 84 (process safety standard)
  • Display a commitment to training and continuous improvement through innovation.
  • Foundation Fieldbus experience is a plus. #LIMRD
