Rally Health improves health and saves money with our friendly, easy-to-use products that help people improve their diet and fitness, shop for health benefits, and find the best doctor at the right price for their needs.   We do it at scale, with millions of reachable accounts and thousands of concurrent users, figures which are roughly doubling every year. The Operations team drives the systems that power this growth in a stable, secure, and performant way, and we are looking for YOU to join our team.   As a DevOps Engineer on the Choice team you will play a pivotal role in making the benefits enrollment portions of our product ready to be used by hundreds of thousands of customers in the fall of 2016 and millions in 2017. Benefits enrollment is something almost everyone does during a short period in the autumn; our traffic is highly episodic and bursty. This makes for an interesting set of operational challenges. You will work in our Chicago office with a team of 30 software engineers and 15 DevOps engineers, but you will have primary responsibility over your projects aligning with the Choice product. Along with other team members, you will be responsible for 24x7 availability and reliability of our application in an environment where load varies by multiple orders of magnitude week to week.   Primary considerations and where you’ll fit in:

  • You will complete our migration from Rackspace to AWS
  • You will maintain our production services and support the development and QA environments
  • Using Terraform and Packer, you will extend the automation of our infrastructure so we can continue to move even faster
  • Based on data from Splunk, New Relic, and other tools you will drive decisions and operational excellence
  • Prior experience at a SaaS company is a must; the ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with git pull requests, building code with Jenkins, and deploying software with Octopus Deploy   The team you will be joining is C#/.NET deploying into a Windows environment, but much of the rest of our firm is JVM/Linux. You will play a key role in determining how to get the best of all these technologies, harmonizing them where possible. If you are an OS bigot, this is not the role for you. We are realistic about the pros and cons of running an internet-facing site on Windows; directionally we wish to migrate to Linux and an ideal candidate will have equal muscle in posh and bash.
