DataStax, the leading provider of database software for cloud applications, is seeking a talented and seasoned engineering leader to join our DataStax team, as the Director of Managed Operations.   You will manage our operations team that directly manages customer implementations of DataStax Enterprise.

DataStax Enterprise (DSE) is in use at over 1,000 customer sites, helping them to accelerate delivery of real-time value at epic scale by providing a comprehensive and operationally simple

data management layer with a unique always-on architecture built on Apache Cassandra. DataStax Enterprise provides the distributed, responsive and intelligent foundation to build and run cloud applications.

DataStax manages the day to day DSE operations for some enterprise customers and is looking for a leader to manage the highly talented ops team who provide this trusted service.  DataStax also partners with our customers to provide expert advice in data modeling, application development, cluster sizing, and more.  You will work with peers in Support and Services to provide a seamless experience for customers. This position will report to the EVP of Engineering.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Manage engineers while simultaneously delivering service and building automation tools
  • Staff and support the team for 24x7 operations with customers across the globe
  • Participate as an active member of the company’s technical feedback process to Development, Sales, Enablement & Product Management so we can constantly build better tools for customers, including those who host their own environments
  • BA / BS / MS in Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 2+ years managing operations of a production Cassandra database for a large enterprise or technology company
  • 5+ years managing site reliability engineers who both manage environments and build automated tools to make them easier to manage
  • Experience running production software / databases on the Amazon IaaS platform
  • A solid understanding of enterprise security requirements
  • A relentless focus on simplicity and automation
