DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer

ZapLabs is looking for a highly motivated DevOps/Site Reliability engineer to help build a modern infrastructure for building, deploying, and monitoring high volume consumer facing web applications along with internal tools and systems.  You’ll work on everything from transitioning a good chunk of our infrastructure to AWS, helping us move to a container-based service architecture, and supporting the “Big Data” infrastructure used by our Data Science team.  You should be passionate engineering and operations (e.g. you read the Netflix and Airbnb engineering blogs with your morning coffee and have a copy of Google’s Site Reliability Engineering book on your bedside table) and excel at writing code to automate everything.

Here’s what we’d expect you to know:

Configuration management tools, preferably Chef.  We have lots of servers and and need to manage them in an automated way.

Basic UNIX/Linux systems administration

How to write good code (data structures, algorithms, etc.)

Be comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment

Solid communication skills

And some other stuff that would give you a leg up:

Continuous integration software, e.g. Jenkins or Bamboo

AWS.  Big part of the plan for the next six months is to move services into AWS.

Resource managers, e.g. Mesos, Kubernetes, Yarn, etc.

Docker—this is a big part of how we’re going to be able to scale services and give engineer the tools they need to produce and deploy them.

Distributed messaging systems, e.g. Kafka

“Big Data” tools, e.g. Spark, Hive, HDFS
