System Engineer (f/m)Location: Heidelberg

We are seeking for a System Engineer (f/m) with following profile:Role: To maintain and manage the SpringerNature global infrastructure with a focus on (opensource) cloud technologies.

Specific responsibilities:

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Manage a global infrastructure (IAAS & Enterprise IT)
  • Maintain a highly automated infrastructure
  • Maintain a hybrid environment making use of public cloud providers
  • Ensure that the systems can operate free of interference by solving bottlenecks and problems (Servers/Virtual Infrastructure/SAN/Backup/MER/SER)
  • Maintain guidelines on usage of the systems and their components and maintains an adequate system of documentation for reference and re-use including diagramming
  • Provide service to users of the systems in terms of information, guidance, coordination and advice
  • Maintain internal and external monitoring solutions based on the IAAS

  • Good knowledge on Linux and Windows-based systems preferably in a Cloud or Virtualized environment (Vmware/Openstack)
  • Preferred knowledge of Ansible in production environments with many nodes
  • Knowledge about treating the infrastructure as code, and knowledge of code deployment
  • Scripting skills, i.e., Powershell, Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl, etc.
  • Knowledge about IP networking, VPN‘s, DNS, load balancing and firewalling
  • Knowledge of monitoring a cloud-based infrastructure
  • Affinity with public cloud providers like AWS, Google, etc.
  • Knowledge of revision control source code repositories
  • Occasionally work outside office hours
  • Occasionally required to travel to other countries
