The PBS Works Application Engineer provides demonstration, positioning, support, training, and installation/configuration services to Altair’s customers and prospects for the PBS Works suite of products through intense phone and e-mail activity as well as traveling 25-50% yearly on deployments or to attend sales meetings, trade shows, or conferences.  The AE builds relationships with new and existing clients that secure business for PBS Works and Enterprise Computing product lines.  Solid interpersonal skills for working with prospects, customers, account managers, developers, and fellow support, training, and application engineers are required.

Responsibilities:

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Provide support related to deploying Altair’s PBS Works high performance computing software suite at customer sites. This includes: configuring/customizing the applications to match the customer’s requirements, integrating with third party applications, and integration of the entire solution into the customer’s infrastructure.
  • Discuss potential sales opportunities and perform technical analysis and qualification of potential customer projects, often on-site with the customer.
  • Troubleshoot the applications in the product suite.
  • Liaison between customers and development personnel to drive new feature requests into future product releases.
  • Discuss product features in detail with customers.
  • Recommend configuration changes to customers to more optimally utilize the products.
  • Distill newly discovered product issues down to their simplest reproduction case and clearly communicate the issue to development personnel.
  • Manage customer expectations so as to ensure maximum satisfaction with Altair’s products and services.
  • Proactively maintain contact with prospects, customers, and partners to discuss current and new product features/uses that address their pain points, moving them through the sales process or up-selling Altair’s product suite often in conjunction with account management’s business planning.
  • Demo PBS Works products as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 2yrs of UNIX/Linux and/or Windows System Administration.

  • Familiarity with Linux system utilities/troubleshooting tools and techniques.
  • Excellent inter-personal, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to write clearly and meaningfully in response to e-mails and RFPs, or when submitting reports.

  • Sound organizing capabilities and strong self-starter attributes.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations to perform installations, customer training, and business meetings.  We strive to not have people travel two weeks in a row at any time.
  • Previous experience with PBS Professional or other Workload Management Solutions (LSF, SGE, Torque, LoadLeveller) a plus.
