Why would you apply to a boring old DBA job?  Well, this DBA job is about more than coffee, defining “analog” to the sales guy, and endless fuzzy soap operas in the break room on our square 32-inch TV from 1997.

For one thing, we are building Infrastructure as a Code, so your work is not limited to database infrastructure. For another thing, we don’t block developers, we provide them rinse and repeat solutions to bring their development pipelines into newer, better infrastructure and monitoring environments. Lastly, no jerks get onto our team, if you are a jerk go flame someone on a forum and stop reading.

The Senior Database Engineer will be joining the death-star powerful Unified Platform Team.  We are a team of 15-20 building loosely coupled but smartly designed parity of services for enterprise-wide adoption.

In this role you will be partnering closely with the database developer, engineering functionality and automation with Cassandra, Ansible, Terraform (onto AWS as a target, and other host services).

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Design high-performing database and automation solutions for our commerce platform development teams (e-commerce and retail - global).
  • High comfort with Cassandra (or other NoSQL database.)
  • Automation with Ansible (if you’ve used Chef this is great too, but need to understand the differences in scripting with Ansible.)
  • Terraform experience preferred (CloudFormation experience is fine too.)
  • Knowledge and work with basic AWS services including EC2 and VPN.  (More AWS services involvement is in our future.)
  • Cursory knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, especially PCI (if you’ve been through a PCI audit this would be very helpful.)
  • Experience implementing and managing high capacity, redundant, and mission critical environments.
  • Practical understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, Load balancers, VLAN, IP sub netting, proxies and firewalls.
  • Proven ability to automate repetitive tasks using a common scripting or programming language.
