IT Systems Developer

£26,565 – £35,577 pa Full-time, Fixed-term

Southampton, Hampshire, UK Ref: 188-AC040

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust has recently been awarded the status of Global Centre of Digital Excellence and is leading an exciting programme to become paperless as a digital exemplar trust. We will be utilising additional investment from NHS England to boost our informatics strategy and enable us to deliver pioneering applications to support patient care and medical research.

We have a range of challenging projects to deliver including ‘WhatsApp’ for Clinicians, device integration and wearable technology and digital imaging solutions, and are expanding our existing team to support this programme.

We are looking to recruit two IT systems developers to enhance our existing systems and develop new functionality to support medical research and improve patient care.

You’ll be working on healthcare applications for internal and external customers and a number of Oracle databases that support core IT systems. A key project for this team is the ongoing development of our successful digital patient programme My Medical Record that now has around 4,000 users. My Medical Record is a multiple award winning, innovative tool that allows patients to keep daily health diaries, upload data from medical devices and communicate with their clinicians without attending hospital.

Because we operate a complex data storage architecture with multiple APIs, you will need to be a quick learner. Whilst the ideal candidate will be an experienced developer, we are also interested in hearing from less experienced applicants with the ability and desire to learn. We’ll be happy to support your work experience with formal technical training.

In addition to being self-motivated and able to adapt your skills to new environments and quickly learn new technologies, you will have experience of the following:

Dependent on your skills and experience, the positions will be offered as either agenda for change band 6 (£26,565 - £35,577) or band 5 (£22,128 - £28,746), with the potential to progress to band 6 on the successful achievement of certain personal development targets.

Initially on a fixed term 12-month contract, the contract may be extended subject to continuing funding.

If you have the skills, experience, or drive and ability to achieve the required competencies within an environment that can offer support and development, we’d like to hear from you.
