Deployment Engineer at Foundry (Manchester, UK)
Deployment Engineer
Foundry - Imagination Engineered
Foundry designs creative software technologies used to deliver award-winning visual effects and 3D content for the design, visualization and entertainment industries. Our software advances the art and technology of visual experience in partnership with creative leaders across the globe. It enables clients like Pixar, Mercedes-Benz, Google, ILM, Weta Digital, The Moving Picture Company and Sony Pictures Imageworks to turn incredible ideas into reality, by solving complex creative challenges.
The Role
We’re looking for a Deployment Engineer to help deliver our new design visualisation product to customers across the world. We are taking our existing technology stack from the world of visual effects to deliver new workflows to new users in new markets.
Our development partners are big names from the world of architecture and engineering, and we have real assets from their portfolios to use as our test cases. The product will encapsulate a complex workflow to take these assets, pre-process them, and deliver high-quality visual results in 2D and VR settings. This will be delivered either as a SAAS cloud-based solution, or deployed to a customised appliance at the customer’s premises.
Reporting to the Lead Engineer, your primary focus will be supporting on-prem delivery. You’ll work to define process and procedures for seamlessly configuring new systems, and managing and upgrading existing ones. In addition, you will work with our cloud systems team to define how our design visualisation product is deployed on their platform.
You’ll be expert at configuring and managing systems across multiple nodes, both physical and virtual. You’ll be expert at scripting the deployment of system components, ideally from a repository such as Git. You will be able to tell us how to solve some novel problems: we’re looking for an expert who knows more than we do.
Our first customers will be scattered across the UK, US and the rest of Europe, so there will be some travel involved to configure systems after they have been delivered. On-site, you will have to solve any problems with interfacing to local IT systems, linking to user authentication, file and data access systems, for example. So we’re looking for someone with a proven track record of troubleshooting systems integration problems.
You will be expected to define the responsibilities of our enterprise partners, train and support them.
We are committed to continuous development on the project and will be designing a workflow that supports this with automated testing and packaging. You will also be expected to help design this workflow, working with our QA and DevOps teams.
After deployment, you will be a key contact with Support to investigate customer problems. You may also be asked to liaise with clients and with other Foundry teams including Documentation, Sales and Marketing.
