The Research EDW is looking for innovative team members with an entrepreneurial mindset who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and put on a few different hats to build the EDW from the ground up. The Systems Administrator plays a vital role on the Research EDW team by providing administrative support of all Research EDW systems. This position requires broad knowledge of administering Linux and Windows servers, storage arrays, computing clusters, and database instances. This individual is expected to maintain current systems, suggest improvements, provide technical expertise, ensure systems adhere to organizational policies and security requirements, and to be a project technical expert and lead when acquiring new systems. The Systems Administrator will coordinate with multiple teams spanning VCU IT departments and those from the chosen Research EDW vendor, and prioritize and execute multiple tasks/projects with competing deadlines. This position is responsible for provisioning/deprovisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related Research EDW infrastructure. This individual is also expected to participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. 

The System Administrator works in a multi-team environment and is capable of coordinating, prioritizing, and executing multiple tasks/projects with competing deadlines simultaneously and autonomously. In addition to working with Research EDW team members, this position works closely with the VCUHS Operations EDW team and chosen EDW vendor to gather requirements by analyzing existing operational systems and using them to design data pathways to build the Research EDW. This individual is also expected to collaborate with VCU and VCUHS Information Security teams to ensure University requirements are addressed. The System Administrator position requires communication with peers and management using appropriate content and tools for relaying technical details of projects, status updates etc. to individuals with varying levels of technical knowledge. This will include the detailed recording of system documentation and collaborating with technical peers online. In addition, this individual communicates with end-users of the Research EDW systems to gather user requirements or address other user requests related to the systems supervised. This position also functions as a vendor manager and liaison with product vendors relating to assigned systems.
