  • Engineering of solutions for various project and operational needs, centered around the Uncharted private cloud, specifically:

OpenStack general purpose compute cloud Ceph general purpose storage Kubernetes/Docker application platforms

  • OpenStack general purpose compute cloud

  • Engineering of solutions that may combine both on-site private clouds with strategic use of commercial cloud services
  • Collaboration and engineering of solutions for software developers, as a key DevOps partner and leader
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, services, settings, directories, storage, etc.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Research and recommend innovative – and where possible automated – approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Monitoring and supporting a growing network of cloud services, including clustered computing frameworks and distributed compute and storage systems. Planning for growth, pro-actively designing and implementing expansions and upgrades.
  • As a DevOps partner with our software development team, maintain, support and grow our development and production platforms, including:

Hadoop/HDFS compute and storage platform Apache Spark compute platform Multiple large-scale ElasticSearch clusters

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups, monitoring network health, load and performance of firewalls, switches, and Internet connections.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted clients.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  • Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required, including private storage and compute cloud expansions.
  • A university degree or college diploma in computer science or equivalent with 7 – 10 years of related experience.
  • At least 7 years progressive experience managing mixed Windows/Unix multi-tiered environments
  • A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking protocols (VRRP, MLAG, DHCP, DNS, OSPF, IPSec, VLAN’s, VPN’s etc.) with hands-on experience managing layer2 and Layer3 switch gear
  • Hands-on experience working with virtualization environments like OpenStack, oVirt/RHEV, Virtualbox, XenServer
  • Familiarity with clustered filesystems like Ceph and GlusterFS
  • Programming experience with the following: Bash; AWS, Google Cloud or Azure SDK’s; Chef/Puppet/Ansible; Python or similar
  • Experience managing/maintaining Atlassian suite of applications (Jira/Confluence/Bitbucket/Crowd)
  • Active Directory management experience
  • Have knowledge of web technology and web server administration
  • Experience with configuring RAID and LVM under Linux using mdam and lvm2 command line tools
  • Must be security focused with hands-on experience administering Firewalls/IDS/IPS/WAF’s/Load Balancer’s/FIM
  • Experience with iptables / netfilter suite of IP filtering
  • Experience with the administration of services under Linux including Apache web server, Postfix, BIND, DHCPD, NFS, Samba
  • Hands-on experience administering MS SQL, PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Knowledge of Linux, Android, and iOS operating systems
  • Knowledge of VOIP
  • You MUST be able to meet Security Clearance requirements, including a police background check
