Desired Skills and Experience
- BS with 3+yrs / MS 1+yrs experience in the field of Biology. (Work concentrated in the Microbial/Microbiome field is preferred)
- Knowledge of molecular biology and how it correlates to microbial cultivation.
- Proficiency in various anaerobic and aerobic isolation and culturing techniques from heterogeneous samples.
- Ability to communicate findings clearly and efficiently.
- Must work well independently and as an integral part of a team.
- Must be resourceful.
- Flexibility or willingness to work on either the microbiology of molecular teams.
- Experience in anaerobic isolation of novel organisms a plus.
- May be required to travel up to 15% of the time.
- Should be capable of walking, bending, and prolonged sitting and/or standing during work hours
- Have a strong grasp on basic microbiology techniques (i.e. sterile technique, plating cells on agar plates, serial dilutions)
- Have a broad understanding of known/characterized microbial diversity
- You will have a basic knowledge of microbial metabolism
- Have experience Isolating and cultivating novel aerobic and anaerobic microbes
- Develop new media formulations for cultivation of specific species from heterogeneous mixtures of microorganisms
- Have experience in media compilation and optimization for cultured isolates
- Assist in the design and execution of experiments
- Have experience in the processing of new environmental samples
- Travel to supervise and administer field trials (Internationally and within the U.S.)
- Communicate findings and data to other team members and department leads.
- Update and maintain databases
- Maintain an up to date and well-organized lab book

- Have experience in DNA extractions and PCR
