Desired Skills and Experience

  • Analyze, and develop the facets of the MarkLogic finished goods repository necessary to produce and distribute JAMA Network publications: construct and manage data ingestion and exports for each publishing channel, modify system configurations to support changes in the content structure, ensure that data transformations and vendor deliveries meet specified requirements.
  • Assist the Journal Production Database Manager with the development and configuration of systems and technology dedicated to JAMA Network content production within Publishing Operations: DTD management (XML/SGML), typesetting (SDL’s XPP), Macintosh workstations, data transmission and file delivery, disaster recovery policies, file archiving, XML/SGML maintenance, XML editing software, Adobe LiveCycle, style sheets, data transformations, messaging frameworks, and all programming interfaces. 
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum preferably in information technology, or five years comparable work experience required with a strong emphasis on publishing system development and management within a structured data environment required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with publishing or database systems management, including hands-on development required. 
  • Experience with MarkLogic environments preferred. 
  • Experience with development using any of the following preferred: web services including SOAP or REST, JSON, Perl, JavaScript, .Net, search APIs, NoSQL databases.
  • Broad technical skills necessary, with an understanding of a wide range of publishing technology including the following: DTD management (XML/SGML), indexing and semantics application, typesetting (SDL’s XPP), Macintosh workstations, data transmission and file delivery, disaster recovery policies, file archiving, XML/SGML maintenance, XML editing software, Adobe LiveCycle, style sheets, data transformations, messaging frameworks, data governance, display and transformation technologies, single source to multiple channel workflows, XML, SGML, XQuery, XHTML, HTML, EPUB, XPath, RSS, CSS, JSON, Perl, SPARQL, and XSLT. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to understand business requirements and convert them to action items.
  • Must have an interest in advancing education in the application and integration of publishing and information technologies and a desire to develop new and useful tools in a customer centered environment.
  • Excellent decision making skills and sound judgment.  Requires working both independently and in a group setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and social skills to interact with internal managers, outside vendors, and staff.
