- Exercise thought leadership and innovation in the resolution of technical challenges, as well as in the creation of long-term technical roadmaps for global UNIX and storage infrastructure.
- Drive innovation in all aspects including low latency space, improve automation, implement self service capabilities and evolve the core platform, influence partner teams as necessary.
- Provide best in class support, solve deeply technical challenges, and communicate technical topics.
- Develop and execute a robust platform automation strategy, including system and application deployment automation and configuration management.
- Develop and execute a strong measurement and monitoring strategy, including system and service monitoring and performance measurement.
- Manage development of tactical and strategic technical solutions that will address business and IT requirements. Implement proofs-of-concepts for innovative designs to enhance ITG’s competitive advantage.
- Develop, train and manage a strong global team to manage both existing UNIX/Linux and storage infrastructure and develop new systems.
- Act as escalation manager for highly critical business requests, responsible for driving team members to meet expectations and for working across teams to achieve a common goal.
- Actively participate in production outage investigation, resolution, ensuring root-cause analysis is identified and knowledge gained is applied for process improvement.
- Review and research solutions for cost effectiveness, compliance to standards and ability to meet future needs.
- Purchase UNIX/Linux systems and all storage infrastructure.
- Monitor and evaluate efficiency of system usage and make recommendations to management to improve performance.
- Participate in 7x24x365 support for the company’s Linux service as necessary, some late night and weekend work will be required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science with 10+ years of experience in UNIX/Linux engineering experience in lead or senior position
- 5+ years of experience managing IT staff is required
- 3+ years of experience with HP 3PAR, EMC, NetApp, Data Domain, NetBackup
- 3+ years of experience with Networking/server trouble-shooting
- 3+ years of experience with deployment and configuration automation tools, such as Ansible, puppet.
- Financial services experience is preferred
- Strong experience with VMware and cloud deployments.
- Strong scripting skills (one or more of; sh, bash, ksh, Perl, Python, Powershell) required
- Experience and skill in troubleshooting and performance tuning hardware and operating systems for low latency environments and/or throughput.
- Experience with LDAP, NIS, DNS, proxy.
- Experience with market data distribution technologies and understanding of FIX protocol is preferred
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills required to work closely with business partners, engineering, operations and vendors
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a service oriented mindset
- Quick learner, detail oriented; demonstrable thoroughness and strong ownership of work
- Good team player with a strong willingness to participate and help others
