Desired Skills and Experience
- A technical expert who questions the status quo and uses their strategic vision for the connectivity technology landscape to shape TIP efforts across access, backhaul and core domains. Ultimately they will enable these infrastructure solutions with the network operator community and drive deployments across the industry at large
- Define cutting edge telecom network deployment approaches and plan operator trials for innovative infrastructure solutions that will help deliver on the vision for wider scale telecom infrastructure adoption
- Advocate internally at Facebook, through the Telecom Infrastructure Project (TIP), and the partner community at large on how to maximize opportunities to successfully deploy new telecom hardware and software contributions across the industry
- Manage the technical relationships with network operator and OEM & ODM infrastructure partners to help reduce friction and remove obstacles facing telecom hardware/software contribution and market adoption
- Identify key telecom network use case requirements, compile common feature sets and software open API requests from operator partners to drive design parameters within Facebook programs and the technology vendor community
Educate the Facebook Connectivity team about how to contribute to TIP, highlight achievements/impact of contributions and share developments coming from partners
- Write white papers, blog posts to share with the broader community with the goal to introduce and help drive adoption of TIP infrastructure
- Stay abreast of developments in the telecom domain including technology R&D, use-cases, hardware/software evolution and share that knowledge with the team
- Support the direction and expansion of the team, helping to scope future roles as the charter of the team grows
- Previous experience (8+ years) as an R&D manager, solutions architect, product manager, technical marketing manager in one or more of the telecom infrastructure areas - wireless access, backhaul and core networking
- Firm understanding of mobile telecom infrastructure system architecture, network design principles, wireless spectrum bands coupled with expertise planning, designing or deploying telecom networks
- Familiarity with evolution and recent development of cellular & wireless technology (2G/3G/4G/5G), Wi-Fi (802.11n/ac/ax), Wi-Gig (802.11 ad/ay)
- Experience leading technology and industry development, identifying ecosystem partners, investigating performance issues and making necessary trade-offs in order to architect e2e telecom infrastructure solutions
- Experience in establishing a business relationship with with technology ecosystem partners such as OEM/ODMs and Network System Integrators in APAC for the manufacture, supply and support services of hardware and software
- Ability to understand network operator deployment scenarios such as different geographies, population densities, indoor vs. outdoor, range of ARPUs and uses cases such as fixed/mobile access, enterprise/public access to drive development of flexible, cost-effective and open infrastructure
- Lead partners in the development of telecom hardware, protocol software, network management systems, edge content caching systems and applications critical for adoption of the complete solution
- Drive infrastructure hardware/software proof of concepts trials within Facebook and/or at partner labs ultimately leading to field trial evaluations prior to rapid commercial deployment
- Familiarity with internet user data usage patterns and application performance characterization
- BS or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree/experience
- Communication skills including experience speaking to technical and business audiences including the C-suite
- Fluency in English
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of time
- Fluency in Hindi or Bahasa Indonesia a plus
