DUTIES: Contribute to teams responsible for maintaining multiple backend database clusters used by Comcast Cable's flagship X1 product to deliver quality customer experience; monitor the health, availability, and performance of production and development Cassandra databases and servers, including maintaining 99.999 percent Cassandra database cluster uptime, utilizing AWS, Azure, and GCE cloud technologies to support Cassandra databases/infrastructures in an AWS cloud environment, and creating virtual machines and conducting provisioning with the appropriate configurations; work with SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and Scylla; perform scripting with Bash, Perl, and Ruby; conduct programming in Java; utilize machine learning to develop and continuously improve operational efficiencies; install new database releases and related software tools for evaluation in a continuous integration environment; apply software patches and upgrades to server software so that Cassandra databases stay in compliance with security and performance standards; perform and automate daily database maintenance, user assistance, and troubleshooting, including monitoring database backups, re-running any incomplete or failed backups, and maintaining automated disaster recovery procedures; analyze and resolve complex technical problems, including conducting performance tuning and debugging; plan database and server-level capacity according to statistics and user requests; and augment capacity on the analysis of service level agreements.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; and two (2) years of experience utilizing AWS to support Cassandra databases in a cloud environment; working with SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and Scylla; scripting with Bash, Perl, and Ruby; and programming in Java.
