The Product Team drives the evolution of the MachineQ platform from how clients interact with us, how we present our services to the general public, up to customizing our own sensor hardware. We critically assess the structure, operations, and business models of potential customers across various industries, and work diligently to understand how our solutions can help organizations based on their specific needs.

Position Description:

Engineers who join the MachineQ engineering team will work on the design and development of the infrastructure, applications, and tools required to support and scale a global IoT infrastructure. Software and DevOps tasks will range from in depth use and understanding of MachineQ's core platform and applications including familiarization with enterprise grade IoT technologies and solutions based on LoRAWAN. This frontend engineer will work on various MachineQ products, including device telemetry visualization, notification management, and network management tool. Applicant will develop the UI our customers use to log in, manage their hardware, and see specs on the health of their hardware. Applicant will build out pages and API endpoints responsible for providing telemetry, connectivity status, and other features designed to get our customers on the network with as little friction as possible. Our platform is currently supported on the web and growing in the mobile space. Applicant must be willing to learn and adapt to new technologies in order to support our expanding presence.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong leadership skills required.

  • Strong organizational and technical skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing product requirements and manage deadlines.

  • Interface with business, product, and other engineering teams.

  • Designs and develops scripts, applications, and automation required for large scale infrastructure management, automation, and monitoring.

  • Support incident management for operational issues including availability for support after hours.

  • Identify opportunities for system enhancements that will deliver enhanced functionality and/or simplify system administration.

  • Work closely with BA/QA team members to ensure that issues are properly identified, fixed, and tested.

  • Comfortable giving demonstrations of technical products and systems.

  • Willingness to travel (up to 10% of time).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.

  • Designs new software and web applications, supports applications under development, and customizes current applications. Develops software update process for existing applications. Assists in the roll-out of software releases.

  • Trains junior Software Development Engineers on internally developed software applications.

  • Oversees the researching, writing, and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, and formal recommendations and reports.

  • Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.

  • Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures, and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior level Software Development Engineers.

  • Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification, and within budget.

  • Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.

  • Displays expertise in knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts, and skills and their application in the area of specified engineering specialty.

  • Displays expertise in process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design, and technical choices to internal audiences.

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Generally requires 7-11 years of experience.

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related.

  • Experience interfacing and extracting information from managers, team leaders, and stake holders to come up with appropriate technical solutions for the business.

  • Experience assisting with timeline planning and release schedules to ensure timely execution of all deliverables

  • Experience with Git.

  • Strong proven JavaScript skills in large scale application

  • Extensive experience with React and Node in a high use production environment

  • Experience with React Native, Redux, ES6+

  • Strong understanding of managing State

  • Strong understanding of fetching data and updating the UI accordingly

  • Understanding of sync and async events and how to manage both inside React lifecycle

  • Ability to create reusable custom application components from scratch, both styling and JavaScript implementation

  • Strong experience with semantic markup

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and coach other team members on coding practices, design principles, and implementation patterns.

  • Exposure to distributed, large-scale back-end design and implementation.

  • Experience with consuming APIs.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL.

Optional Qualifications:

  • Have worked with responsive layouts and understand how to manage components at different viewport dimensions

  • CSS architectural experience in large scale application (pre-processors)

  • Ability to make UI decisions and work with UX to manage direction of the application

  • Experience with Kubernetes.

  • Experience with at least one compiled language (python, java, golang).

  • Experience in database design and optimization.

  • Experience with bundlers (Webpack preferred, but anything is fine)
