Job description

Scope of work:

The Senior Systems Administrator (SSA) reports to the DOC (Digital Operations Center) Manager and provides operational services for the digital platforms supporting Turner Broadcasting News, Sports and Entertainment brands.

The DOC oversees the 24x7x365 stability, integrity, and efficient operation of large-scale digital platforms. The platforms deliver content and services, which includes web, video, messaging, and applications to various technologies (i.e. mobile devices, computers, etc.).

The SSA responsibilities include the facilitation of detection, triage, correction, escalation and documentation of major and critical events. The Senior Systems Administrator will also ensure that Service Level Targets are met when managing incidents and service requests, trending recurring events and incidents to initiate problem investigations.

Coding skills are also needed in this role particularly around the automation of API integrations and configurations. You will need to write automation scripts and some light web/API development. Experience doing application support development would be strong enough coding skills set for this role.

Other key skills include strong experience with cloud service technologies, configuring a monitoring framework/ platform and strong Linux system administration skills. Some of the administration skills you can expect to perform would include adding new users, resetting passwords and other common system administration functions.

The DOC is a 30-person team consisting of a two managers, engineers and administrators. The shift size can vary to as little as two people to on the 3rd shift and 7 people on the 1st shift. All team members must be open to working all three shifts and this is rotated quarterly.

Top 3-5 requirements:

•           4+ years of experience within a 24/7/365 technology operations environment with production support experience in a Linux/Unix

•           Demonstrable experience with one or more web/systems programming languages (Python, PHP, Ruby, Java, Perl etc.)

•           Configuration experience with commercial, open source and SaaS based monitoring tools {Zenoss, Nagios, Zabbix, MONIT, Kibana, Catchpoint, Conviva, Circonus, DataDog, BigPanda etc.}

•           Deep technical expertise in server administration, client service, user authentication, configuration management tools, internal & external monitoring tools, networking troubleshooting and concepts and shell scripting.

•           Technical and problem-solving skills in multiple flavors of Linux/Unix such as RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS, SmartOS, X-86 Solaris etc.

•           Must be able to willing and able work a rotational 24x7 schedule including weekends

•           Good experience and support of container-based environments based on Kubernetes, Docker and other container orchestration solutions.
