Summary : The Desktop Support Specialist works as an integral part of the IT team and is responsible for the overall coordination, control and maintenance of the desktop computing environments, company phones, printers and other peripherals. This position is also responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining records of purchases as directed by management. This computing environment includes support for a heterogeneous operating system environment including Apple Macintosh, AS/400, Citrix, Terminals, UNIX, and Windows.
Essential Functions: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:
Problem resolution, determine cause and resolution to client problems and concerns associated with desktop computer hardware, operating systems, applications and peripherals
Provide Desktop/Laptop support to all users within established SLA’s for local and remote support of our clients/end users
Provide Printing support and maintenance
Provide wireless support
Work with vendors to troubleshoot issues
Create/test/image Desktops & laptops
Ordering of IT related items as directed by management
Basic networking, cabling, network punch downs and troubleshooting
Perform regular preventative maintenance on all equipment to include but not limited applying software updates, software installation, cleaning, etc.
Maintain, update documentation including but not limited to hardware and software registration, SOP’s standard operating procedures, system recovery, etc. and create new documentation as needed
Train end users and peers in the use of equipment and software
Respond to and use the helpdesk system to document all issues and resolutions and keep all open issues up to date in this system
Assist Systems Administrators with the installation and support of enterprise related hardware and software as requested.
Setup new user accounts within Active Directory, Oracle Applications, A/S400, and various other systems.
Provide remote support for VPN users.
On-call rotation for after-hour support
Maintain current technical expertise in the rapidly changing technology of microcomputers and software applications.
Conduct research on desktop products in support of PC & peripheral procurement efforts. Evaluate and recommend products for purchase.
Other duties may be assigned, directed or requested.
Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
2+ years of desktop support experience
Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Windows & Apple Macintosh operating systems
Detailed knowledge of Office Suite/Outlook, Adobe, Fonts, InDesign & Quark
Experience in setting up and imaging laptops and desktops
Ability to multi-task and prioritize
Technical certified training (such as A+ or MCP) or demonstrated equivalent experience
Working knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals and printers
Knowledge of basic networking (cables, topologies, devices, etc.) required
