Job description

Comcast's Technology & Product organization works at the intersection of media and technology. Our innovative teams are continually developing and delivering products that transform the customer experience. From creating apps like TVGo to new features such as the Talking Guide on the X1 platform, we work every day to make a positive impact through innovation in the pursuit of building amazing products that are enjoyable, easy to use and accessible across all platforms. The team also develops and supports our evolving network architecture, including next-generation consumer systems and technologies, infrastructure and engineering, network integration and management tools, and technical standards.

Job Summary:
Are you passionate about network engineering? Would you rather spend your time writing a script than performing a repetitive change? Do you find yourself spending your spare time writing code to make your life easier? Then look no further! Comcast's Smart Network Platform (SNP) organization aims to revolutionize network engineering at Comcast by providing a multi-tenant and generic platform for network orchestration and telemetry. The team seeks an experienced network engineer with an affinity towards automation to serve as a subject matter expert embedded amongst our software engineers to customize our platform to meet the needs of our internal networking teams.
Our platform seeks to drive consistency, eliminate manual changes, increase network visibility, and ultimately minimize customer impacting incidents. On the network orchestration side, this means providing configuration standardization by encapsulating vendor interfaces as well as abstracting complexities of engineering processes across our backbone, datacenters, and regional networks. On the telemetry side, this means centralizing data collection and providing a single programmatic entry point for network data inventory, operational state, and topology. Having a single source of truth will allow for event correlation across network boundaries, to pinpoint incident epicenters and reduce noisiness of our current monitoring tools.

Maintain detailed knowledge of the Comcast network including its evolving architecture, configurations, topologies, and platforms
Serve as an enthusiastic and expert champion of network engineering concepts within a highly skilled software development group
Aid in Comcast transformation from proprietary CLI-driven configuration and SNMP based telemetry to model-driven and vendor-neutral configuration and streaming telemetry
Provide internal trainings and presentations to increase networking knowledge within the software engineering team
Partner and serve as a liaison with internal network architecture, engineering, and operations teams
Participate in and further communities such as (but not limited to) OpenConfig on behalf of Comcast's requirements and contributions
Drive continuous improvement of deployed platforms by consistently looking for ways to expand capabilities. improve efficiency, and reduce costs

Job Requirements
Detailed knowledge of routing and switching; CCNP or JNCIP certification or equivalent job experience
Experience with Python, Perl, Go, or other scripting; exposure to web services (REST, gRPC)
Experience with YANG, JSON, XML (including XPATH) and Protobufs preferred
Understanding of Linux environments and utilities
Experience working in agile teams; JIRA knowledge preferred
