The Comcast Cooperative Educational Program (Co-op) immerses students into the daily operations of a contemporary media and technology company while working side-by-side with Comcast's top innovators. Designed for students whose curriculum allows for a cooperative learning track, the co-op becomes an integral part of the Comcast team working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units. Throughout the experience, there is opportunity for exposure to mentorship and professional development while having some fun along the way.
VIDEO-VIPER VISE SOFTWARE DNA, the Development and architecture group is a software team within the Video organization which provides software solutions in support of the delivery of video contents to our customer living rooms and on-the-go. We have a group of dedicated engineer's professional distributed across several Comcast locations including Denver, Philadelphia, and Reston. Our software ranges from ensuring our contents are available in all our datacenters with a high degree of integrity, developing a streaming server supporting the delivery of our Video On Demand through cable, to collapsing our delivery paths of video content using the IP CDN. Our technology stack and tooling are primarily Open Source ranging from GoLang, Kubernetes, GitHub to MySQL, Apache Pulsar and Prometheus. We pride ourselves for supporting innovation through contribution to several Open Source projects and the IDD, and a culture of transparency.
Work as a software engineer on the Development and Architecture (DNA) team within the VIDEO VIPER organization. Create and maintain software that supports the company's cross-platform VOD navigation and content delivery infrastructure for over 25 million video customers nationwide.
Co-op responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Participate in the design review of new features and projects assigned to the team.
-Participate in requirements collection and analysis as needed.
-Engage in collaborative design with teammates, operations counterparts, and customers for components of software projects as needed.
-Engage in pair programming, team code reviews, and peer code review and user story acceptance as needed.
-Document software and processes as needed.
-Develop and support automation that allows for continuous testing of software created by the team
-Work with teammates and operations to automate deployment of systems and software created by the team.
-Work with operations as needed to help automate monitoring, metrics collection, and other systems administration tasks related to software developed for the team.
-Other duties as assigned
-Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree from a United Statesbased college or university that has a cooperative learning track
-Available to work 40 hours per week for 6 months starting September 23rd, 2019.
-Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering
-3.2 minimum cumulative GPA preferred
-Experience developing serverside applications using GO.
-Team player with professional work ethic and positive attitude.
-Minimum of 1 year experience writing software as part of a multiperson team.
-Good understanding of Linux system administration and commandline usage
-Understanding of troubleshooting, software lifecycle and quality assurance practices.
-Experience with relational databases, including an understanding of database schemas and concepts and exposure to administration and/or scripting for at least one widely used relational database system.
-Understanding of automated testing libraries and practices
-Experience with source code control on multideveloper projects.
-Able to stay organized and switch between multiple projects.
-Able to learn new technologies as needed and open to changing technological direction as required by the team.
