Varex Infrastructure Engineer III

Overview : Varex Imaging Information Technology department will be adding an Infrastructure Engineer to address our demand for Infrastructure support across the enterprise.  As an Infrastructure Engineer, you have experience designing, deploying, operating and supporting Servers, Hypervisors, Storage, Networking, DNS, DHCP, MDM, Federated SSO and Active Directory. The position also supports Disaster Recovery and the automation of the replication and restoration of services, files, and applications.

More specifically, the role’s responsibilities include:

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Some travel required
  • Help to establish and apply administration standards
  • Remain current with technology and industry/market trends
  • VMware responsibilities including configuration and administration.
  • Technical Infrastructure Project Management, demonstrated ability to deliver detailed technical documentation and manage tasks.
  • Ability to Implement, Train and Support Technical Solutions
  • Design, test, certify and document new systems, environments and cloud services.
  • Technical documentation of existing and new environments
  • Regular collaboration and communication with teams and end-users; driving teams and objectives.
  • Administering SQL databases (Backup, Replication, Recovery, Performance Tuning…).
  • Monitor, support, configure and physically build systems
  • Provide expert troubleshooting and technical support of systems for supported business units.
  • Provide internal-consulting and support to business units to translate requirements into solutions.
  • On-call rotation participation
  • Proactively suggest enhancements to existing configurations, technologies or procedures.
  • Troubleshoot intricate systems and networking issues down to the bit level and up through the application layer.
  • Process, monitor and prioritize trouble tickets.
  • Automate any and all tasks that can be automated.
  • Remote data center support and management.
  • Assist in hardware/software purchases.
  • Provide critical thinking to complex problems in a 24/7, mission critical mixed Windows/Linux environment
  • Strategic Responsibilities : In this role the viable candidate will need to be able to develop strong partnership relationships with:
  • Our global enterprise application teams within Varex IT to collect and define technical requirements for system needs
  • Information security and data privacy team to ensure compliance objectives are known and achieved within the system designs
  • Software engineering organization


  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in the computer field is required. Higher degree is preferred.

  • 3-5 years of IT experience

  • 3 years of project management experience. Documented success in project leadership.

  • 3-5 years of functional experience for Enterprise Systems.

  • Experience with capacity planning, monitoring and best practices relating to support of systems

  • A passion for in-depth understanding of technology, and building large-scale systems. 

  • Required:

  • Experience with virtualization technologies

  • Experience with backup/restore technologies

  • Experience with SAN architecture, implementation and management

  • Data Center Critical Facilities experience

  • Understanding of Cloud storage and use cases (AWS)

  • Experience with virtual environments and volume provisioning/optimization (VMWare)

  • NetAPP storage platforms

  • Cohesity experience a plus

  • Experience with distributed file systems, file system management

  • Experience backing up enterprise storage systems

  • Ability to track and monitor health and utilization.

  • Hands-On Server Hardware Experience

  • Windows Server and Linux proficiency

  • Familiarity with AD, IIS, FTP, SMTP, SCCM, InTune and other utility related platforms

  • Working knowledge of relational databases and direct experience with MS-SQL

  • Accomplished professional demonstrating both team and key individual contributions

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with end-users, business owners, developers, managers, and systems engineers.

  • An understanding of security requirements and technical implementation as a basic capability.

  • Work well within a team

  • Value added skills/experience:

  • Certification or equivalent engineering experience in multiple OS's, VM and storage systems, Windows Server, SAN, Networking

  • Extensive experience with VMWare

  • Working experience with HyperV

  • Experience with Office 365

  • Experience with Solarwinds

  • Juniper specific networking experience

  • Palo Alto Networks specific experience

  • Experience with Aruba Wireless

  • Experience with Clearpass

  • Experience with Okta

  • Experience with NetApp, Hitachi, Cohesity

  • Experience with VeloCloud SDWAN

  • Cloud service experience AWS preferred

  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job. Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location is also required. Other duties as assigned.
