Job description

This individual should have experience working in a CMDB environment within large organizations, preferably in the financial services industry. The CMDB Administrator is responsible for maintaining the CMDB as an operator and should be adept with discovery patterns and service mapping.  

This role may be located within 3 hours of any of the following OneMain Financial HQ locations - Baltimore, Wilmington, DE, NY, NY, Chicago, Evansville, IN, Dallas, Charlotte, Tempe

Responsibilities: 

  • Defines, creates, and manages the ServiceNow Discovery schedules, ensuring that they complete their scans and provide the expected data 

  • Assists the Configuration Manager with audits and reports to ensure process compliance and the accuracy of the CMDB 

  • Responsible for identifying which configuration item (CI) types, CI attributes, and CI relationships are tracked in the CMDB 

  • Ensures ServiceNow Discovery schedules are created and maintained for all active locations and the IP ranges being scanned are active 

  • Develops and implements processes to review the ServiceNow Discovery logs, identifies issues, and resolves them 

  • Troubleshoots and resolves any issues with ServiceNow Discovery and CMDB health, including working with support teams and other appropriate stakeholders 

  • Ensures ServiceNow Discovery is aligned with other systems that provide CI data 

  • Manages all aspects of the CMDB including reconciliation and de-duplication 

  • Works with application teams to develop Service Mapping for the applications 

  • Develops process for maintaining the Service Maps

  • Integrates the CMDB with  additional processes 

 
Required Skills: 

  • Requires 3+ years’ of experience administering Service Now ITOM applications. More specifically, should have experience with the following - Discovery, Service Mapping, and Event Management 

  • Possess functional knowledge of hardware, web application servers, databases, and potential dependencies 

  • Possess functional knowledge on Servers (Windows, Unix), Server Virtualization, WMI, SSH, Telnet, etc. 

  • Must have basic MSSQL skills, as well as familiarity with databases, SQL, database architecture, database instance, tables, table space, etc. 

  • Requires familiarity with Mainframe CIs 

  • Experience scripting and troubleshooting the errors identified during the CI discovery 

  • Experienced with network hardware such as firewalls, DMZs, load balancers and protocols, such as TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, FTP, and SNMP  

  • Possess fundamental understanding of application architectures: 2 tier and 3-tier applications, OSI Model, Active Directory, LDAP, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) 

  • Requires knowledge in Change and Configuration management processes 

  • Requires knowledge of ServiceNow Common Services Data Model 

  • Candidate must be detail oriented and able to communicate across teams concerning their technologies 

  • Must have the ability to take initiative in solving issues and proposing solutions 

  • Candidate must effectively communicate the use of configuration management and the role of the CMDB/CMS 

 
Education / Training:  

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree preferred 

  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator preferred
